Final Fantasy VII Revelation: Everything We Know
Final Fantasy VII Revelation is officially the final chapter of the Final Fantasy VII Remake trilogy, bringing Cloud and his companions toward their ultimate confrontation with Sephiroth.
Square Enix has confirmed a release date, revealed major gameplay changes, and shown how the third game will expand exploration, combat and party customization.
Here is everything confirmed so far about Final Fantasy VII Revelation.
Final Fantasy VII Revelation Release Date
Final Fantasy VII Revelation will launch on April 8, 2027.
Square Enix has confirmed versions for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
The Final Chapter of the Remake Trilogy
Revelation concludes the story that began with Final Fantasy VII Remake and continued with Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.
Cloud and his companions face a world moving toward catastrophe as the conflict with Sephiroth reaches its final stage.
A Much Larger World to Explore
One of the biggest additions is the ability to explore the world using the iconic Highwind airship.
Players will be able to travel across a large connected world, take to the skies and discover new regions, cities and remote locations.
The Highwind Changes Exploration
The Highwind is more than a story element. It becomes an important part of exploration and gives players greater freedom to travel around the planet.
Players can leave the airship to visit different areas, making the world feel more connected than in previous entries.
Cid and Vincent Join the Playable Party
The party is expanding with Cid Highwind and Vincent Valentine becoming playable characters.
Both characters bring their own combat styles and abilities, adding more tactical possibilities when building a party.
New FITS System
Final Fantasy VII Revelation introduces a new customization mechanic called the Function-Integrated Tactical Suitwear System, or FITS.
FITS allows characters to equip specialized outfits that change more than their appearance. Each one can provide different moves and combat functions.
Four specialized FITS have been revealed:
- Warrior
- Knight
- Black Mage
- Summoner
This gives players another way to customize party roles and experiment with different strategies.
Instant Character Switching
Another major improvement is dynamic character switching.
Players can instantly switch between party members while exploring, making it easier to use different characters and their unique abilities throughout the world.
New Grappling Gun
Traversal is also being expanded with a grappling gun.
The new tool allows players to move across certain environments more quickly, including scaling rooftops and reaching elevated locations.
Piko Returns With a Bigger Role
The chocobo Piko returns, but this time the companion has a larger role.
Piko can be used for traversal and can also assist the party during combat. The chocobo can become stronger and gain additional capabilities as players progress.
Choose Characters for Certain Quests
Some quests will allow players to choose which party member participates.
According to Square Enix, these choices can affect specific story events and gameplay scenarios, adding more character-focused experiences to the adventure.
Queen's Blood Returns
The popular Queen's Blood card game from Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is returning.
This time it includes a new storyline centered on Red XIII, along with new opponents and gameplay challenges.
Whirlwind Maze Gameplay
A hands-on demo shown in September 2026 provided a closer look at the Whirlwind Maze.
The demo featured Cid and Vincent as playable characters and demonstrated how the new FITS System works during combat.
It also included a major encounter involving Jenova, showing how Synergy Abilities and Limit Breaks remain important parts of the battle system.
Combat Still Mixes Action and Strategy
Revelation continues the series' hybrid combat system, combining real-time action with tactical commands.
Players can switch between party members, use character-specific abilities, activate powerful Synergy Abilities and enter Tactical Mode when more precise control is needed.
