MediaTek has officially launched the Dimensity 9600 Pro, a new flagship smartphone processor built on an advanced 2nm process.

The new chip brings major upgrades across CPU performance, on-device AI, gaming, mobile photography, connectivity and power efficiency, setting the stage for the next generation of premium Android smartphones.

Here is everything you need to know about the MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro and the technologies behind it.

MediaTek Dimensity 9600 Pro Goes 2nm

The Dimensity 9600 Pro marks an important transition to the 2nm generation for flagship smartphone processors.

MediaTek says the new manufacturing process helps deliver stronger performance while significantly improving power efficiency.

This matters because modern flagship phones increasingly need to handle demanding workloads such as generative AI, high-end gaming and computational photography without sacrificing battery life.

New All Big Core CPU

The Dimensity 9600 Pro uses MediaTek's fourth-generation All Big Core CPU architecture with an eight-core 2+3+3 configuration.

  • 2 Arm C2-Ultra cores running at up to 4.55GHz
  • 3 Arm C2-Pro cores running at up to 4.35GHz
  • 3 additional Arm C2-Pro cores running at up to 3.1GHz

According to MediaTek's internal testing, the new CPU delivers up to 17% higher single-core performance and up to 15% higher multi-core performance compared with the previous-generation flagship processor.

MediaTek also claims a substantial improvement in power efficiency, including up to a 61% reduction in multi-core power consumption under its test conditions.

A Major Upgrade for On-Device AI

Artificial intelligence is one of the biggest areas of improvement in the Dimensity 9600 Pro.

The chip includes a dual-NPU architecture combining the MediaTek NPU 1090 with a second-generation Super Efficient NPU.

The NPU 1090 is designed for demanding generative and agentic AI workloads, while the more efficient NPU can handle continuous background AI tasks with lower power consumption.

MediaTek says the NPU 1090 provides 51% faster LLM prefill performance and 55% higher token generation per watt compared with its previous-generation flagship platform.

Support for Large AI Models on the Phone

The Dimensity 9600 Pro is designed to run increasingly sophisticated AI directly on smartphones.

MediaTek says the platform can support on-device models with up to 30 billion parameters under supported configurations.

This could enable more AI processing to happen locally instead of relying entirely on cloud servers.

LPDDR6 and UFS 5.0 Support

Another major upgrade is support for the latest memory and storage technologies.

The Dimensity 9600 Pro supports LPDDR6 memory and UFS 5.0 storage.

MediaTek says UFS 5.0 can deliver twice the read and write performance of the previous generation, while LPDDR6 increases effective memory bandwidth.

Faster memory and storage can improve application loading, multitasking, AI processing and other data-intensive smartphone workloads.

Gaming Up to 185fps

For gaming, the Dimensity 9600 Pro integrates the new G2-Ultra NX GPU.

MediaTek claims up to 27% higher peak GPU performance, 24% better power efficiency at peak performance and up to 18% faster ray-tracing performance compared with the previous generation.

The platform can support gaming at up to 185fps in compatible titles and configurations.

MediaTek is also combining GPU and AI processing through its Neural Graphics Architecture to improve graphics rendering and super-resolution technologies.

Major Camera and Video Upgrades

The Dimensity 9600 Pro includes the new Imagiq 1290 ISP together with MediaTek's AI Imaging Fusion Architecture.

The system combines ISP and NPU processing to improve computational photography and video recording.

The chip supports camera sensors up to 200MP and several advanced video capabilities.

  • 4K video at up to 240fps for slow motion
  • 4K120 recording with electronic stabilization
  • 4K60 HDR video
  • 17EV imaging support in compatible camera systems
  • AI-assisted subject tracking

Support for 8K Video

The processor also supports 8K60 video decoding and 8K video encoding capabilities, depending on the codec and device implementation.

MediaTek says the Dimensity 9600 Pro is also the first smartphone processor to include hardware decoding support for H.266/VVC.

Displays Up to WQHD+ 180Hz

The Dimensity 9600 Pro can power high-end displays with resolutions up to WQHD+ at refresh rates of up to 180Hz.

It also supports a BT.2020 color pipeline and technologies designed to reduce motion blur while improving display power efficiency.

5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.2

Connectivity receives several upgrades as well.

The integrated 5G-Advanced modem supports download speeds above 7.4Gbps under compatible network conditions.

The platform also includes Wi-Fi 7 with speeds up to 7.3Gbps and support for Bluetooth 6.2.
