iOS 27.2: New Features and Release Details
iOS 27.2 is approaching its public release. Apple published the Release Candidate on October 19, 2026, with build number 24B115. The beta cycle has brought changes to FaceTime, Apple Podcasts, Apple Music and other built-in apps, alongside an important change to what will be included.
Updated October 23, 2026. This article covers the Release Candidate; features and availability may change before the public release.
What does iOS 27.2 RC mean?
RC stands for Release Candidate: a build being evaluated for the final release. It can become the public version if testing reveals no issues requiring another build. Its arrival does not mean that the update has already launched for everyone.
Apple's developer release listing confirms the RC date and build. At the time of writing, that listing does not confirm a public release date for iOS 27.2.
Group FaceTime gains Dual Capture
One of the most practical iOS 27.2 features extends Dual Capture to group video calls. As demonstrated in 9to5Mac's beta coverage, the feature lets callers share their front and rear cameras simultaneously.
That means you can show something in front of you while keeping your face visible to the group. It could be useful for a live demonstration or sharing a view during a family call.
The reported hardware requirement is an iPhone 17 or later. Other participants need compatible Apple software to see both camera streams, so updating one phone does not automatically enable every part of the experience for everyone.
Apple Podcasts separates new and unfinished episodes
Apple Podcasts reorganizes its listening queue into New Episodes and Continue Playing, according to hands-on beta coverage.
The first section highlights recent releases from followed shows. The second gives unfinished episodes a dedicated place, making it easier to resume something you started earlier. For listeners who regularly switch between shows, the separation should make the home screen easier to scan.
Apple Music gets a different visual identity
The iOS 27.2 beta cycle also introduces a black-and-white Apple Music icon and blue highlights for the active tab, as reported in 9to5Mac's RC coverage.

Apple TV profiles and expanded Siri AI languages
Other additions reported during testing include profiles in the Apple TV app and support for more Siri AI languages. These changes broaden personalization and language access, but readers should check the final availability details for their country and device.
A supported interface language alone does not establish eligibility for every AI feature. Hardware and regional requirements remain relevant.
The redesigned Health app is absent
Apple explicitly states in its RC release notes that the redesigned Health app is not included in this beta. Its appearance in an earlier beta was for testing, and Apple says it will return in a future beta.
Consequently, the earlier redesign should not be presented as a confirmed iOS 27.2 launch feature. Apple's note does not identify a specific later version for its return.
Tracking permission changes for EU users
Apple's developer notes also describe an expanded App Tracking Transparency prompt and support for requesting permission again annually for EU users. The alternative prompt is required in France, Germany, Italy, Poland and Romania. This concerns how apps request tracking permission.
Should you install the Release Candidate?
For a primary iPhone, waiting for the public release is a reasonable choice. Apple's beta guidance recommends backing up before installing test software and using a secondary device because problems can remain.
Keep the RC and public release separate when checking availability. For context on the earlier testing cycle, see our iOS 27.2 preview, or browse more smartphone news.
