AirPods 5: What’s New?
AirPods 5 bring Active Noise Cancellation to both models of Apple’s open-ear lineup. Announced on September 9, 2026, they launched on September 18 with U.S. prices of $129 and $149 for the Wireless Charging Case version.
This overview uses Apple’s published information. Radar Next has not independently tested their sound or noise cancellation.
What Changes in Sound and Noise Cancellation?
Apple claims up to 50 percent more external-noise reduction than AirPods 4 with ANC. A redesigned acoustic system and Adaptive EQ also aim to improve sound. Treat these as manufacturer claims, rather than guaranteed results for every listener.
For an upgrade decision, our priority would be comfort during a normal listening session. A specification comparison cannot tell you whether the shape suits your ears.
How Do the Two Versions Differ?
- AirPods 5: USB-C charging; up to four hours with ANC, or 20 hours including the case.
- AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case: USB-C, Qi, and Apple Watch charger support; a Find My case speaker; and volume adjustment by swiping the stem. Battery ratings reach five hours with ANC, or 22 hours including the case.
These are maximum battery ratings. Actual endurance varies with use. Both models use Apple’s H2 chip and carry an IP57 resistance rating.
What Does Live Translation Require?
Live Translation needs compatible Apple hardware, current software and AirPods firmware, and Apple Intelligence enabled. Language and regional restrictions apply. Apple describes setup through the Translate app with downloaded languages.
Before buying specifically for translation, check your exact phone, language pair, and location. The presence of a feature in advertising does not establish eligibility for your setup.
What About Siri AI?
Apple announced Siri AI as a beta rolling out with iOS 27 on supported Apple Intelligence devices. Availability depends on language and region, with initial restrictions in the EU. AirPods alone do not supply the required iPhone capabilities.

Can You Use Them With Android?
Apple lists Bluetooth use with non-Apple devices, but functionality may be limited. Buyers should distinguish basic headphone use from Apple-specific features.
Which Version Makes More Sense?
Our suggested approach is to price the features you would actually use. Compare the local cost difference against the convenience of wireless charging, stem volume control, and the higher battery rating. U.S. launch prices do not establish Moroccan retail prices, stock, or warranty terms.
